Why Braces?

Improved bite & chewing

Corrects bite issues, improving chewing efficiency and reducing wear.

Better oral hygiene

Straighter teeth make brushing and flossing easier, reducing risk of decay and gum disease.

Enhanced aesthetics & confidence

Aligning teeth improves smile appearance and boosts self-esteem.

Long-term dental health

Fixing alignment reduces chances of jaw pain, uneven wear, and future dental complications.

What are Braces?

Dental braces are orthodontic appliances designed to gradually move and straighten teeth, improving both dental appearance and oral health. By applying gentle, controlled pressure over time, braces guide teeth into their ideal positions.

In Singapore, braces are a commonly chosen orthodontic treatment for patients seeking a confident smile, improved bite function, and better oral hygiene. Straighter teeth are easier to brush and floss, helping to reduce the risk of tartar build-up, tooth decay, and gum disease.

Whether for functional reasons or aesthetic improvement, braces offer a reliable and effective solution for children, teenagers, and adults.

Braces are recommended to correct a wide range of dental and bite issues, including:

  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Crowding or overlapping teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite, underbite, crossbite, or open bite

Correcting these issues can:

  • Improve chewing and speech
  • Enhance oral hygiene
  • Reduce uneven tooth wear
  • Support long-term gum and dental health

If you’re unsure whether braces are suitable for you or your child, a professional orthodontic assessment can help determine the best treatment option.

A well-aligned smile does more than improve oral health — it can significantly boost self-confidence and self-esteem. Crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth may make some people feel self-conscious when speaking, smiling, or being photographed. Orthodontic treatment helps correct these concerns, allowing you to smile with greater confidence.

By straightening the teeth and improving bite alignment, braces and clear aligners enhance facial harmony and smile aesthetics. A balanced, symmetrical smile often creates a more positive first impression and can improve how you feel in both social and professional settings.

When considering braces in Singapore, several options are available to suit different needs, lifestyles, and budgets.

Metal Braces

Traditional metal braces are fixed braces made from stainless steel brackets and archwires. They are durable, effective, and commonly used for complex orthodontic cases, making them especially popular among teenagers.

Self-Ligating Braces

Self-ligating braces (e.g. Damon braces) use a specialised clip instead of elastic bands to hold the archwire. This design may reduce friction, improve comfort, and allow for longer intervals between visits in some cases.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, are nearly invisible and removable. They offer flexibility and convenience, making them suitable for adults and teens who want minimal disruption to daily life.

Your dentist will recommend the most suitable option based on your dental condition, lifestyle, and treatment goals.

Braces are suitable for patients of all ages:

  • Children & Teens (10–15 years)
Often an ideal time for treatment, as most permanent teeth have erupted and jaw growth can be guided.
  • Adults
Modern options such as clear aligners make orthodontic treatment more discreet and comfortable than ever.
  • Complex Cases
Patients with severe bite or jaw discrepancies may be referred to an orthodontic specialist if needed.

Yes. Braces are a proven and effective orthodontic treatment for correcting a wide range of alignment and bite issues, including:

  • Crowding and spacing
  • Overbite and underbite
  • Crossbite and open bite
  • Excessive overjet (protruding upper teeth)

Braces work by using an archwire held in place by brackets to apply gentle, continuous force. Over time, this controlled pressure moves the teeth and supporting structures into healthier, more functional positions.

With regular adjustments and proper care, braces can deliver long-lasting improvements in both function and appearance.

Maintaining good oral hygiene during braces treatment is essential to prevent gum disease and tooth decay.

Our recommended tips:

  • Brush after every meal and floss daily
  • Use interdental brushes
  • Avoid stic
  • ky, hard, or chewy foods
  • Apply orthodontic wax to reduce irritation
  • Use pain relief medication if needed after adjustments

Regular dental check-ups and professional cleanings are also important throughout treatment.

FAQs

Got questions? Relax, we’ve got your back

How long does braces treatment take?

Treatment duration varies depending on the complexity of your case. During your consultation, our dentist will assess your teeth and bite and provide an estimated timeline.

Generally, braces treatment takes approximately 12 to 24 months.

The frequency of visits depends on the type of orthodontic treatment:

  • Traditional metal braces: Every 4 weeks
  • Self-ligating braces: Every 6–8 weeks
  • Clear aligners: Visit intervals depend on the number of aligner trays issued at each appointment

Speech may feel slightly altered at the beginning as you adjust to having braces or aligners. Most patients adapt quickly and regain normal speech within a short time.

For metal braces, mild irritation or ulcers can occur initially; orthodontic wax will be provided to help ease discomfort.

Some dietary adjustments are required:

  • Avoid hard foods that may break wires or brackets
  • Avoid sticky or chewy foods, which can get lodged in braces and be difficult to clean

With proper care and food choices, most patients adapt well during treatment.

Good oral hygiene is especially important during braces treatment:

  • Brush thoroughly after meals
  • Floss daily and use interdental brushes to clean around brackets and wires
  • Use fluoride toothpaste

Regular dental check-ups and cleaning help prevent tooth decay and gum disease during treatment.

Braces are generally not Medisave-claimable, as they are considered non-surgical dental treatments.

However, in complex orthodontic cases where surgical exposure of unerupted teeth is required, the surgical portion of the treatment may be Medisave-claimable, subject to MOH guidelines.

CHAS subsidies may be applicable for initial consultation and X-rays, depending on eligibility

Some mild discomfort or pressure is normal, especially after adjustments or when starting a new aligner tray.

This typically subsides within a few days and can be managed with simple pain relief.

No. Clear retainers are included in your quoted treatment fee to help maintain your results after braces or aligner treatment is completed.
